We lost a great man

July 27th, 2009

I have some sad news to tell you a wonderful friend and fellow member of the GaySeniors.Info family Jules (koala). He passed away last week on the 21st July. He was one of the first supporters of this site and also a member of my previous sites.
Jules and I met at the Chiron Rising Meeting in Orlando, where he sang. I could not take my eyes off him and I loved his voice. We were in contact ever since and he helped me very much when my partner died. He did so much to help others in the community to cope with their loss and now sad to say it’s our loss we’re coping with.
Now I am doubly sorry that we did not have the chance to go over to the COF this year to see Jules again. He was a great man and I know lots of people will miss him very much. He was going in for a valve replacement operation on the 21st of July but never made it through. Our thoughts, prayers and sympathy go with his loved ones for their loss. As they say he may be gone but he will never be forgotten. All of us will miss him so much.

Just another Senior Citizen

July 24th, 2009

By John ( Bigred42 click to see his profile)

Yesterday I had to go to my bank Wells Fargo.  I was making a deposit.  In line there was a lady maybe in her early 60’s and a lady about the same age behind me.  All of a sudden this older gentlemen walked up on a walker.  He must have been close to 80 years old.  He asked: “Is this the line?”  A few people said, ” Yes.”  I saw he was having a hard time standing on his walker.  It looked like the weight on his feet were bothering him.  I remember when I used to walk over 40 years ago and my arches would hurt when I stood still.  I could tell he was having that same problem.  So I rolled out of line, and rolled up behind him and he said:  “Why did you do that?”  I said:  ” Because I have a wheelchair and I can sit here and you don’t.”  I thought the 2 ladies in front of me would follow suite, BUT they didn’t.   Maybe they had to get home to watch a soap opera, or go listen to talk radio.  Maybe they did have their own things to deal with, but this man was having a hard time–so much for humanity.

When the gentlemen got to the teller and there was a seat I could see he was shaking a little and he felt relieved to have been able to sit in a chair, and he was relieved to have been there.  I really felt angry and upset that people would be so insensitive to this man.  Disabled people are used to this behavior.  People have their own ways of discriminating against other by actions or double talk in our society, and we are used to that.

BUT TO NOT RESPECT OUR SENIORS IS INEXCUSABLE.  THE WORLD MAY NOT BE PERFECT, AND ON MANY LEVELS OUR SYSTEM SUCKS, UT WE SHOULD ALWAYS SHOW RESPECT TOWARDS OUR ELDERS FOR WITHOUT THEM WE WOULD NOT HAVE EXISTED.

I came home and I vented with a few friends, and then really hated Fresno for such behavior.  I realize that not all people act this way, but I was mad as hell.  When people do not respect one another especially our seniors that has always upset.  We do not always have to agree with seniors point of views, but we should always respect them as people.

The other day I downloaded the song:  ” Why can’t we be friends?”  by War done about 30 years ago or so.  I think it was done during Viet Nam.    Great tune.

Thoughts For the day:   Why are we so stupid towards one another.  why do we hate and pick on each other so much in this life time.  why do we push Seniors aside like they don’t matter.  Why is everybody is such a hurry?  We have to get it done right now!  I guess we are here just to be in motion and always on the move; so sad people are afraid to stop and be human to one another.  It is also kind of tragic too.
Love and peace.
